Townscapes
Places
Let me loose in a place I have never been before and I am happy to get lost. In every town (and city), there are those views that everyone photographs – and I photograph them too but that’s OK because they are often the best views.
As a photographer who hates having objects dissected by the edge of the frame, townscapes can be quite challenging: lamp posts, trees, traffic signs, waste bins and crowds of people make it hard for me to compose my shots. And so many beautiful places are (photographically) ruined by rows and rows of untidy cars.
I would love to photograph more industrial and maritime decay but land values are so high in the South East, it is hard to find derelict buildings and, in London, even the docks have all been gentrified.
If I could do a city mini-break every weekend, I probably would – and wouldn’t even have to leave Europe to keep myself engaged for the rest of my life. Lives are short. So many places to see, so little time…
