Saw Milling

Events

Cabinet makers and master craftsmen, Adamson & Low, have a reputation as the world’s leading experts on “black oak”, of the kind that gets exhumed from fields in the Fens where it has lain mouldering in the ground for thousands and thousands of years.

To preserve the wood and get it into a usable condition, the wood goes through a long and complicated drying process. As part of this, there comes a time when the old tree trunks are milled into planks of wood and, every year, Adamson & Low holds a Saw Milling Festival, when friends, family, fellow cabinet-makers and even students come along to watch the milling or lend a hand.

In 2022, I went along with the twin Nikons to photograph the annual event.
