Landscapes
Places
Landscape photography messes with my head; nature can be unruly and it can be difficult to achieve much symmetry with bits of trees, telegraph wires and parts of clouds scudding off at the edge of the frame.
This may explain why many of my “landscapes” centre on some man-made object – a bridge, a barn, a castle… I am lucky to live among the apple orchards of the Garden of England but have never yet managed to take a photo I like of the trees in blossom. Apple trees are simply too untidy.
I accept that some things will always look better in real life than in a photograph and some places are better enjoyed in the moment; they don’t look good in a photo gallery…
