Events

I am lucky to have been invited as an official photographer for a number of sporting events, racing around the countryside in a van, taking photographs and doing a live blog on the run. When the sun shines, there are few better ways to spend a weekend.

I once did “live” coverage of a cycling race in Majorca from my dining room table, by watching blue dots move around an internet map. I lost the signal when the riders were half a mile from the finishing line and had to guess when the race had finished. It’s much more fun to put boots on the ground and snap away from carefully prepared vantage points along the route.

My events coverage is always very carefully prepared in advance; I need to know exactly where to be – and when – and then do the research: I like to put the events in some historical or geographical context… I mean, if a cyclist is at risk of being eaten by a lion, people are going to want to know more about the lion, right?
